St Luke's Academy Learning & Education

Physical Education

Within the PE department at St. Luke's our aim is to provide our students with opportunities to develop both mental and physical aspects of themselves and their character through a broad range of team sports and independent activities as well as outdoor adventure activities. To support and encourage pupils to future and continued participation in sport.

PE develops students' competence and confidence to take part in a range of physical activities that become a central part of their lives; both in and out of the academy. A high-quality PE curriculum enables all students to enjoy and succeed in many kinds of physical activity. They develop a wide range of skills and the ability to use tactics, strategies, and compositional ideas to perform successfully. When they are performing, they think about what they are doing, analyse the situation, and make decisions. They also reflect on their own and others' performances and find ways to improve them.

KS3 & KS4 students take part in their core PE lessons along with the rest of their tutor group. Throughout the year, all students will be given the opportunity to experience football, rugby, basketball, hockey, badminton, tennis, fitness training, athletics, Gaelic football, ultimate frisbee, dodgeball and cricket, which ensures they cover all areas required in the PE national curriculum.

Additionally, students will be given the chance to take part in extracurricular training and matches within these sports both within St Luke's Academy and against other BESD schools. Many of our students take great pride in representing The Peak Academy in this capacity and find it a very positive experience.

KS4 Sports Option Pearson BTEC Sport Entry Award Level 1

BTEC Introductory qualifications will demand a lot of practical work from students. Students will complete a range of units, be organised, take assessments that will demonstrate their skills and keep a portfolio of their assignments. Students can feel proud in achieving a BTEC because, whatever their plans, the BTEC Introductory Award will help students progress to the next stage of their learning.
