The intent of the curriculum at St. Luke’s is to empower and enable our students to develop the skills required to lead a successful adult life. We recognise there are large gaps in students’ education prior to arrival and are developing rigorous systems for baseline testing (PASS, CAT, LASS, reading ages and subject specific) to ensure our curriculum and interventions target, stabilise and reverse the deterioration in acquisition of skills. The curriculum is coherently planned and sequenced towards cumulatively sufficient knowledge and skills for future learning and employment. The curriculum is adapted, designed and/or developed to be ambitious and meet the needs of every student, developing their knowledge, skills and abilities to apply what they know and can do with increasing fluency and independence. The curriculum includes not only the formal requirements of the national curriculum, but also core skills and knowledge that all students will need in order to lead a successful adult life. Social aspects that are essential for lifelong learning are also an important part of our curriculum.
