Over the last two weeks for healthy eating, we have been making healthier homemade versions of our favourite foods, and we talked about additives and processed foods containing high salts and sugars.
We found that students' favourites are pizzas, chips, burgers, chicken nuggets and fishfingers, all processed foods we learnt healthy alternatives for, using 100% meats.
Other foods on the menu have been paella, carbonara, modified spicy bacon spaghetti bolognaise, fruit flan and smoothies, fitting in with the students' themes of the term.
We have made healthy puddings like cheesecakes swapping the base biscuit to rich tea (lower sugar) and low-fat cream and fruit crumbles, using homegrown rhubarb and apples, and added fibre with an oat topping.
Next we will be looking at how advertising can fool us on foods.
